Tala’al-Badru ‘alayna
طَلَعَ الْبَدْرُ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ ثَنِيَّاتِ الْوَدَاعْ
وَجَبَ الشُّكْرُ عَلَيْنَا مَا دَعَا لِلّٰهِ دَاعْ
Tala ‘al badru ‘alaynaa, min thaniyyaatil wadaa’
Wajabash shukru ‘alaynaa, maa da’aa liLlaahi daa’
The full moon rose over us, from the Valley of Wada
(ancient place where people would bid farewell to travellers)
Gratitude is incumbent upon us, so long as the caller calls

أَيُّهَا الْمَبْعُوثُ فِينَا جِئْتَ بِالْأَمْرِ الْمُطَاعْ
جِئْتَ شَرَّفْتَ الْمَدِينَةْ مَرْحَباً يَا خَيْرَ دَاعْ
-Ayyuhal mab’oothu finaa, ji-ta bil-amril mutaa’
Ji-ta sharraftal Madinah, marHaban yaa khayra daa’
You who were sent amongst us, coming with a command to be obeyed
You have honoured the city, so welcome, best of callers!
