Balaghal Ula Be Kamalehi Sallu Alaihe Waalehi Naat Lyrics

Balaghal Ula Be Kamalehi
Ka-Sa-Faddujabe Jamalehi,
Hasonat Jami-ul-Khisalehi,
Sallu Alayhe Va Aalehi.

Vo Kamal Husn-e-Huzur Hai,
Ke Gumaane Naksh Jahan Nahi,
Yehi Phool Khaar Se Dur Hai,
Yahi Shamma Hai Ke Dhuva Nahi.

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi……

Me Nishar Tere Qalam Par,
Mili Yu To Kisko Juba Nahi,
Vo Sukhan HaI, Jisme Sukhan Na Ho,
Vo Bayan Hai Jiska Bayan Nahi.

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi……

Karu Tere Naam Pe Jaan Fida,
Na Bas Ek Jaan To Jaha Fida,
Do Jahaan Se Bhi Nahi Jee Bhara,
Karu Kya Karoron Jahaan Fida.

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi……

Sare La-Maqaa Se Talab Huvi,
Su-E Muntaha Vo Chale Nabi,
Koi Had Hai Unke Uruz Ki,
Balaghal Ula Be Kamalehi..

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi……

Babe Aalam Me Babe Bahari Chali,
Sarvare Ambiya Ki Sawari Chali,
Vo Sawari Jaate Baari Chali,
Abr E Rehmat Utha Aaj Ki Raat Hai..

Itre Rehmat Farishte Chhilakte Chale,
Jinki Khusboo Se Raste Mahekte Chale,
Chand Suraj Zelo Me Chamkte Chale,
Kehqasa Jere Paa Aaj Ki Raat Hai…

Toor Par Rif-ate La-Maqani Kaha
Lan-Tarani Kaha, Man-Ra-aani Kaha,
Jiska Saya Nahi, Uska Shaani Kaha,
Uska Ek Moa-jiza Aaj Ki Raat Hai..

Chasme Husne Talab Har Qadam Saath Hai,
Daye Baaye Firishto Ki Baraat Hai,
Sar Pe Noorani Sehre Ki Kya Baat Hai,
Shah Dulha Bana Aaj Ki Raat Hai…

To Koi Had Hai Unke Urooz Ki,
Balaghal Ula Be Kamalehi.

Balaghal Ula Be Kamalehi
Ka-Sa-Faddujabe Jamalehi,
Hasonat Jami-ul-Khisalehi,
Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi.

Tere Aage Hai Yu Hai Tape Rache,
Vo Saha Arab Ke Pale Bade,
Koi Jaan Mooh Me Jubaan Nahi,
Nahi Pal Ke Jism me Jaan Nahi…

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi.

Karu Mehde Ehle Dhovan Raza
Pade Is Bala Me Meri Bala,
Me Gada Hu Apne Karim Ka,
Mera Din Para E Na Nahi…

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi

Jise Chaha Dar Pe Bula Liya
Jise Chaha Apna Bana Liya
Ye Bade Karam Ke Hain Faisle
Ye Bade Nasib Ki Baat Hai

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi

Naa To Mera Koi Kamaal Hai
Na Hai Dakhl Is Me Gurur Ka
Mujhe Rakhte Hain Wo Nigaah Main
Ye Karam Hain Mere Huzur Ka

Sallu Alayhe Va-Aalehi

Beautified were all his characteristics!
Send blessings upon him and his family!

It was a beautiful night, and the time was full of tranquility.

The attraction of love was fully in effect!

He [God] had to call His beloved to the Heavenly Throne.

Towards the final boundary [of the universe], the prophet went!

ye kamaal-e husn ka mu’ajza
This is the miracle of the perfection of beauty:

That even Truth [God] could not bear separation!

shab-e me’raaj liya arsh-e bareeN par bulvaa’e
On the night of ascension, He called Muhammad to the Sublime Throne.

The pain of separation was intolerable even for God!

“Balagh-al-’Ula Bi-Kamaalihi” is a renowned qawwali, most famously performed by the late Sabri Brothers, Ghulam Farid Sabri (1930-1994) and Maqbool Ahmed Sabri (1945-2011) from Pakistan. This multilingual na’at, a praise of the prophet Muhammad, weaves together poetry from various time periods and geographical locations, attributed to at least four different authors.

At the core of this qawwali is a well-known Arabic na’at found in the opening of Gulistan (The Rose Garden) by the Persian poet Saadi Shirazi (1210-1292). While Saadi resided in southern Persia, his works occasionally reference the Indian subcontinent, and there’s speculation that he may have traveled there. Despite this, his influence on South Asian poets writing in Persian and Urdu was profound.

Among the poets influenced by Saadi are Fard Phulwarwi (1777-1848) and Ambar Shah Warsi (1906-1993), both Sufi masters. Phulwarwi, based in Bihar, and Warsi, born in Ajmer but later residing in Pakistan, incorporated Saadi’s “Balagh-al-’Ula Bi-Kamaalihi” into their own na’ats, forming part of the Sabri Brothers’ qawwali. Warsi’s Urdu na’at predominates in the qawwali, while Phulwarwi’s Farsi contribution appears towards the end. The translation indicates the respective authors of each section, although some Urdu parts with unknown authors are likely by Warsi. Additionally, the qawwali features a bilingual Farsi and Arabic na’at by Indian poet Muzaffar Ali Shah (1813-1882).

Thematically, “Balagh-al-’Ula Bi-Kamaalihi” delves into the narrative of the me’raaj (ascension), an event in the prophet Muhammad’s life where he ascended to heaven on the winged steed Buraq. During this celestial journey, Muhammad encounters previous prophets like Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, conversing directly with God at the Placeless Origin, beyond the seventh heaven where the Throne of God resides. Scholars suggest this story influenced the Italian poet Dante’s The Divine Comedy.

The Urdu verses metaphorically frame the encounter between God and Muhammad during the me’raaj as the union of two lovers meeting face-to-face. God’s longing to see Muhammad illustrates the Sufi themes of separation and union, portraying earthly existence as a burden of separation from God and the ultimate spiritual goal as union with the divine.
